Accident at Swedish training ground injures 7

Stockholm, Sept 17, 2026 (AFP) AFP

Seven people were injured Thursday in an accident at a military firing range in central Sweden, the armed forces said, with media reporting an explosion.

"There was an accident just after 4:00 pm (1400 GMT) at the Krak firing range," armed forces spokesman Mikael Agren told AFP, adding that seven people had been injured.

Agren said police were treating the incident as a workplace accident.

Swedish media reported that rescue services had been called to the area following reports of an explosion, but Agren said he could not confirm this.

The Aftonbladet newspaper said it had received reports of a blast when "old unexploded ammunition" was being cleared.

Broadcaster SVT reported that five of the injured were in intensive care.

They were being treated for shrapnel injuries, among other things, according to he Swedish Armed Forces.
