Iraq attacks kill 10 people

Bombings and shootings in five different areas of Iraq killed 10 people and wounded 27 others on Monday, security and medical officials said.

In the deadliest attack, two car bombs exploded northeast of Baghdad, killing five people and wounding 20, officials said.

A roadside bomb near a restaurant in the Dura area in south Baghdad killed two more people and wounded six.

In Muqdadiyah, northeast of Baghdad, gunmen killed one fighter from the Sahwa anti-Al-Qaeda militia in an attack on a checkpoint.

In the northern city of Mosul, a bomb near the local headquarters of the Shiite National Alliance killed one of its employees and wounded another, while gunmen killed a man near his house in the town of Hawijah, also in northern Iraq.

Security forces moved against an anti-government protest near Hawijah in late April, sparking clashes in which dozens of people died.

While violence has fallen from its peak during the sectarian conflict in 2006 and 2007, attacks are still common and have killed more than 200 people each month so far this year.
