Raytheon providing ongoing support for Patriot air defense system

The U.S. Army has given Raytheon a $109 million contract for ongoing engineering services and support for the Patriot Air and Missile Defense System.

Work under the contract for the Army and Foreign Military Sales customers will include system analysis, software development, testing and logistics support, and other country-specific system requirements.

Raytheon said the work will be performed at its facilities in Massachusetts, Alabama and New Mexico.

"Customers around the world will benefit from the maintenance and upgrades that result from this contract -- especially the technical baseline improvements designed to counter evolving threats," said Ralph Acaba, vice president of Integrated Air and Missile Defense at Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems business. "The U.S. Army recognizes the importance of investing in Patriot sustainment, especially given the instability in the world today."

Raytheon did not disclose additional details of the contract, which was issued by the U.S. Army Aviation and Missile Command, Redstone Arsenal, Ala.
