Russia successfully test fires Bulava missile

by Staff Writers Moscow (AFP) Nov 28, 2014 AFP

Russia's military on Friday successfully test-fired a Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile from one of its submarines in the Barents Sea, the defence ministry said.

It marked the third successful test of the missile since a failed attempt a year ago. There have been 22 tests overall since 2005, with eight having failed.

Friday's test was launched from Russia's Alexander Nevsky submarine.

The missile has a range of 8,000 kilometres (5,000 miles) and can be equipped with 10 nuclear warheads.
